rCOMSDEP has engaged traditional authorities in selected communities within the Western Region to ensure community acceptance and to collaboratively develop post-reclamation plans, including the selection of appropriate species for re-afforestation of degraded mined out lands. rCOMSDEP has engaged traditional authorities in selected communities within the Ashanti, Western and Savannah Regions to ensure community buy in during the first phase of implementation of rCOMSDEP specifically the Cooperative Mining Scheme.
rCOMSDEP engaged miners at Aboso Gangway, Fanti Mines, and Bogum Mining Shafts in Prestea Huni Valley to sensitise the miners on the importance of safety in mining operations. The team stressed the need for personal protective equipment (PPEs), clear signage, emergency assembly points, and health posts. rCOMSDEP engaged traditional authorities, community leaders including the Zongo Chief and leaders of small-scale miners in Denkyira Ayanfuri in the Central Region to discuss the benefits of cooperative mining and adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards. rCOMSDEP has also intensified public sensitization through media engagements.
